This was planted in the summer of 2000 in 62N lat at Sykkylven on Sunnmore Norway, and was hardly a halvmeter high. Now (2009), it is well over 3 meters. The tree is in the private garden of my parents, and grows well without any kind of protections. This year it has grown 80-100 cm. I have planted many exotic trees in the garden, that one normally should not expect to thrive at these latitudes: True cedars, Japanese cedars, incense cedars, true cypressus, monkey puzzle, 25 different Japanese maples, tulip tree and this year a real Sequoia. The giant sequoia is one of my favorites, and one of the first exotic trees I bought, and probably the largest in the town, but I realize that it grows so fast that I may have to prune it – or plant a new one a different place – within a few years.
