Details
This package contains 1 western red cedar seedling from our 2010 crop that are 6 to 10 inches tall. The western red cedar (Thuja plicata ) is native to coastal Northern California northward to Alaska and west to Montana. This species is hardy in zones A3; 1-9 and 14-24. Red cedars can exceed 200 feet in height and 10 feet in diameter. The trunk is straight and tapered with bark of reddish brown. The straight grain of the wood makes this tree valuable for use in roofing shingles. The lightweight nature of the wood enabled the Native Americans of the northwest to use the western red cedar for seafaring canoes. This seedling was container grown from seed. The picture was taken on 1/2/12.
