This package contains 1 dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) landscape tree. The buyer will receive a tree that is similiar to the one that is pictured. These trees are 30 to 40 inches tall with a branching spread of 20" to 25" and a trunk diameter between 3/8" to 7/16". The picture was taken on 8/24/09. The tree will be shipped in the container that it is grown in, with the roots intact. The dawn redwood is native to China. This is a deciduous redwood. Thought to have been extinct for millions of years this plant was found growing in a few isolated sites in China in the 1940s. The dawn redwood is a very hardy species growing in zones A3, 3-10, and 14-24. This redwood is very fast growing at 4 to 6 feet per year. The dawn redwood has not been in cultivation long enough to determine the maximum garden size. It is safe to say that this species can become a huge tree. The dawn is not well suited to seacoast or low desert areas.
