Item A1: WESTERN REDBUD LANDSCAPE TREE

Details

This item is 1 western redbud tree (Cercis occidentalis). This tree was grown from seed collected from the central Sierra Nevada foothills of California. The tree will ship in the pot it is growing in with the root ball packed securely to avoid any crumbling. This will protect the roots and help insure success in transplanting. The buyer will receive a tree virtually identical to the one shown in the picture. Our redbuds are leafless and dormant from November to April. The tree is secured to a redwood stake and trained to a standard upright position. The trees are between 30"-40" tall. The western redbud is native to California, Arizona, and Utah, but is predominantly found in the California foothills below 4,000 ft. The Sunset Western Garden Book rates the western redbud hardy to zones 2-24. The western redbud is a shrub or small tree, growing 10-18 feet tall and wide, usually producing several trunks from the base and is drought resistant once established. This tree provides interest all year long. The redbud has attractive 3-inch blue-green heart shaped leaves. Magenta flowers bloom in the spring and in summer, magenta seedpods adorn the branches. Foliage turns light yellow or red in fall, and bare branches holding reddish brown seedpods are picturesque in winter.
