    Martinsburg, Pennsylvania giant sequoia

Thanks to Joanne Sanders for sending us these pictures of her giant sequoia tree growing in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania. Joanne said, “We purchased a Sequoia seedling at the Pittsburgh Zoo gift shop about 25 years ago but never thought it would grow in Central Pennsylvania. We were wrong! Fellow Sequoia fans are welcome to visit our tree. We live on State Street in Martinsburg, PA (southern Blair County), [email protected]”.

Here is a another photo of Joanne Sander's giant sequoia tree with her 6 foot tall husband standing next to it to give you a size reference. She is estimating that the tree is about 30 feet tall. Thanks Joanne for sending us these pictures of your tree.

Thanks to Heath DeGarmo for sending us pictures of two Giant Sequoia trees that he is growing at his parents' house in the mountains of Bradford County, PA. This one is roughly 8 feet tall. They're both extremely healthy and growing rapidly.

Thanks to Heath for sending us this picture of the other giant sequoia tree growing in Bradford County, PA that is approaching 20 feet tall.

  • Giant sequoia just outside Wilkes-Barre, zone 6a, elevation 650'. It would about 15 years old, it is approximately 30' tall and exceeds the peak of the house roof. The tree and area also underwent 5 foot deep flood waters for several days. Thanks to Dave Resavage for talking with the owner of the home and tree to enlighten them about what tree graces their yard.

  • This Sequoia is located on Park Street or Rt 233 in the small town or borough of Mont Alto, PA. Just down the road very near the Mont Alto campus of Penn State. The tree is said to have been planted about 1950. Tree was submitted by its neighbor Nathan Feb. 2011. The tree was brought to Pennsylvania from California in a coffee can.

  • This image shows the beautiful trunk of the tree with a quarter in front to show the diameter. It was planted in 1950 near the campus of Penn State taken by Nathan Clark as of 2017 (Mont Alto).

  • Tyler arboretum tree - This tree is located at the Tyler Arboretum in Media near Philadelphia. Legend has it that the top was cut off and stolen as a Christmas tree when the tree was young. It grew two new tops and is now quite impressive.
  • Haverford College - This tree grows abundantly on the Haverford College campus.
  • Broomall giant sequoia which has been pruned around the town power lines in a winter view. This massive specimen is located on Langford road in Broomall sent to us by Sean Johnson.
  • Jim Sulfare planted his giant sequoia trees along the driveway of his property in Pennsylvania in March of 2009. This shows their growth in one year.
  • Jim is ...."Loving these sequoia trees. After planting these last summer we had thoughts that this winter [being the worst on the east coast in years] would kill them however, to my surprise after taking the burlap I found all 10 doing very well. In comparison your trees replant rate for us is to date 100%."
  • From 6 in. seedling to 6 ft. tree in six yrs. located in Berks cty, Reinshold sent to us from Katie. It has endured several snowstorms and buried under a blanket of snow and recently coved in ice due to freezing rain. Giant Sequoias are very hardy introduced plants in this region and can grow just about anywhere and under any harsh conditions. Thanks Katie
  • This is Glenn Hamm of Glen Rock. Friend Warren gave him this tree and it is in its third year of growth taken in 2008
  • Sequoias tree - There are 2 sequoias in this image from southwestern PA. The little girl is named Sequoia!
