Tennessee dawn redwood

  • Thanks to Randy Allen for sending us this picture of a dawn redwood growing in Nashville, Tennessee. Here is what Randy said about this tree “I just discovered the tallest Dawn Redwood I’ve found in TN so far in my 51 year search. I was out helping the Nashville Tree Foundation this morning, regarding their “Big Old Tree” contest, and discovered this. A beautiful symmetry Dawn Redwood planted around 1968 in a southwest Nashville backyard.  Presently owned by Jim and Hayden. I measured it twice with a digital clinometer and came up with 113’ tall.  75’ canopy spread and 3.5’ dbh”.

  • Randy Allen sent this picture of his friend Paul’s Dawn Redwood that Paul’s dad planted in 1970ish in Springfield TN. According to Randy, the tree is 85’ tall and 3’ dbh and was struck by lightning 6 to 8 years ago but hasn’t deterred it and it has a big healing wound up and down the tree that is almost healed. Randy said it is about the biggest and most symmetrical he’s seen in TN. Thanks for sending us this image.

  • Inglewood area of Nashville planted in 1979 by Randy Allen. The tree is about 82 feet tall as of 2018.

  • Randy Allen planted this Goldrush or Ogon dawn redwood in 2007 in White House Tennessee in his arboretum and as of 2017 it is 30' tall.

  • Another view of the Springfield dawn redwood tree in the fall time before the needles have dropped. Thanks to Randy for sending this image of Tennessee dawn redwood tree.

  • Bruce Hicks sent us three images of an Elizabethton dawn redwood tree in the full glory of summer growth. It is approximately 40 feet tall.

  • Image two of the Elizabethton dawn redwood tree. Bruce Hicks.

  • A close up of a dawn redwood cone of the Elizabethton dawn redwood sent by Bruce.
